Early Bird Comprehensive Evaluation
Understanding your unique orofacial function to guide an individualized therapy plan.
Before beginning a Myofunctional Therapy Program, a comprehensive evaluation is completed to determine which program is best suited to your individual needs.
During this appointment, we will learn more about your history, symptoms, and concerns before completing a thorough assessment of your orofacial muscle tone and function, breathing pattern, oral structures and tissues, tongue posture and mobility, lip function, swallowing pattern, and overall oral rest posture. Measurements, photographs, and videos may also be taken as part of the evaluation process.
Your evaluation findings will help guide an individualized Myofunctional Therapy Program and treatment recommendations.
Myofunctional appliances may be recommended as an adjunct to therapy when appropriate. Brooklyn will size and order the appliance, with the cost added to the selected Myofunctional Therapy Program and paid by the client (cash or e-transfer to earlybirdmyo@gmail.com).
$125 per session
Early Bird Foundations
Building the essential patterns for healthy orofacial function.
This foundational program is typically recommended for clients ages 6 and up who are working to establish the core patterns that support healthy orofacial function. Therapy focuses on efficient nasal breathing, correct tongue posture, gentle lip seal, and proper tongue placement during swallowing. Pre- and post-frenectomy care may also be included when required.
Therapy combines individualized exercises, education, guided practice, and home support to help clients develop and gradually establish healthier functional patterns over time. Progress and treatment duration will vary depending on each client's individual needs, consistency with home practice, and any interprofessional care involved.
Myofunctional appliances may be recommended as an adjunct to therapy when appropriate. Brooklyn will size and order the appliance, with the cost added to the selected Myofunctional Therapy Program and paid by the client (cash or e-transfer to earlybirdmyo@gmail.com).
$100 per session
Early Bird Support Sessions
Supporting lasting change and long-term orofacial health.
For clients who have completed their initial Myofunctional Therapy Program but would benefit from ongoing support, maintenance sessions are available in person or online. These sessions provide continued monitoring of your progress, advanced exercises and techniques when appropriate, and guidance to help maintain the benefits of therapy.
Ongoing support may also help identify changes in function early, reduce the risk of relapse, and promote long-term orofacial health.
Frequency: individualized based on your needs and goals.
$110 per session
Early Bird Mini-Myo
Building healthy oral posture and breathing patterns through simple, fun, and age-appropriate activities.
This program is designed for children ages 3 to 6 who would benefit from early support in developing healthy orofacial patterns. Therapy focuses on nasal breathing, lip seal, and proper tongue posture through simple and engaging activities.
These early years provide an important opportunity to establish healthy breathing and oral posture patterns that can help support jaw and facial development as a child grows.
Myofunctional appliances may be recommended as an adjunct to therapy when appropriate. Brooklyn will size and order the appliance, with the cost added to the selected Myofunctional Therapy Program and paid by the client (cash or e-transfer to earlybirdmyo@gmail.com).
$110 per session
Early Bird Habit Breaker
Supporting the transition from persistent oral habits toward healthier functional patterns.
This focused program is designed for children ages 4 and up who have persistent oral habits that may need to be addressed before or at the beginning of a Myofunctional Therapy Program. Eliminating the habit is an important first step, but continued Myofunctional Therapy is then needed to support the development and establishment of healthier oral rest postures and muscle patterns. Habit Breaker is not intended as a stand-alone treatment.
Habits may include:
- Thumb or finger sucking
- Pacifier use
- Nail biting
- Lip licking or sucking
- Tongue sucking
- Lip or cheek biting
- Hair chewing
The number of sessions will vary depending on the child's individual needs, the habit being addressed, and progress throughout treatment.
Understanding the Work
What is Myofunctional Therapy?
Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT) is a specialized form of care that addresses the muscles and functions of the face, mouth, jaw, neck, and airway. Similar to physical therapy, it focuses on improving muscle balance, coordination, and overall function.
Treatment may address areas such as nasal breathing, tongue posture, lip seal, swallowing, chewing, and oral rest posture. Through individualized exercises, education, guided practice, and home strategies, clients are supported in developing more efficient and coordinated ways of using these muscles.
Because these functions are closely connected, OMT looks beyond isolated symptoms to understand how the different structures of the orofacial system influence one another. At Early Bird, we believe lasting change takes time. With consistent practice and personalized guidance, the goal is to help healthier habits become more natural, comfortable, and sustainable over time.
Is This Right For You?
Why Get This Treatment?
Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy may be beneficial for individuals experiencing concerns related to breathing, oral posture, sleep, jaw function, swallowing, chewing, or other orofacial patterns.
You may benefit from an evaluation if you experience or notice:
- Mouth breathing or difficulty maintaining nasal breathing
- Open-mouth posture or difficulty maintaining lip seal
- Improper tongue posture or tongue thrust
- Snoring or sleep concerns
- Jaw tension, jaw pain, or TMJ-related concerns
- Clenching or grinding
- Headaches
- Chewing or swallowing difficulties
- Speech concerns related to orofacial function
- Orthodontic relapse or difficulty maintaining orthodontic results
- Persistent oral habits, such as thumb sucking
- Concerns following a frenectomy or tongue-tie release
- Postural concerns that may be connected to orofacial function
Myofunctional Therapy is not about treating one symptom in isolation. It is about understanding the patterns contributing to your concerns and supporting healthier function over time.
Good to Know
A few things before you begin
- Every client begins with a comprehensive evaluation to better understand their individual history, concerns, and orofacial function.
- Therapy is individualized. Not every client will require the same exercises, treatment length, or program.
- Progress depends on many factors, including the complexity of your concerns, consistency with home practice, and any interprofessional care involved.
- Myofunctional Therapy is an active process. Consistent home practice is an important part of developing and establishing new functional patterns.
- Therapy may involve collaboration with other healthcare professionals when additional assessment or treatment is appropriate.
- Myofunctional appliances may be recommended as an adjunct to therapy when appropriate. Appliances do not replace the active work of therapy.
- For children, parent and caregiver involvement is an important part of supporting progress outside of appointments.
- Treatment duration varies. Some clients may notice meaningful changes within the first few months, while more complex concerns may require longer-term support.
