Understanding the Work

What is Myofunctional Therapy?

Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT) addresses the muscles and functions of the face, mouth, jaw, neck, and airway. Think of it as physical therapy, but for the mouth. Treatment may focus on nasal breathing, tongue posture, lip seal, swallowing, chewing, and oral rest posture.

You may benefit from an evaluation if you notice:

  • Mouth breathing or difficulty with nasal breathing
  • Snoring or sleep concerns
  • Jaw tension, clenching, or TMJ-related concerns
  • Chewing or swallowing difficulties
  • Persistent oral habits, like thumb sucking
